創新的隱形覆層支撐結構

BASF provides sound protection at Beijing "Water Cube"
Lightweight BASF specialty foam provides conductive environment for optimal swimming performance at National Aquatics Center
Beijing, China – February 23, 2009 – BASF's specialty foam Basotect® is being used in the National Aquatics Center (NAC) in Beijing, helping provide a quieter environment for top swimmers.
The foam was installed as an acoustic insulation that is flame-retardant and environmentally friendly. The National Aquatics Center, popularly known as the "Water Cube", has been fitted with a specially developed walkway structure lined with lightweight Basotect® panels. The panels not only provide sound protection but also blend in with the architectural design and meet stringent environmental requirements. Moreover it is load-bearing, flame-retardant and able to withstand high levels of humidity.
"The intense energy of sound waves from spectators and audio equipment can cause undue stress on the mental acuity of athletes. High quality soundproofing at the competition stadium is a crucial design consideration that can make an enormous difference to athletes while enhancing the overall aesthetics of the facility,” says Dr. Christof Moeck, head of Global Business Management Basotect®, BASF.

Novel and invisible cladding construction
This inherently flame-retardant BASF melamine resin foam stands out for its extraordinary acoustic properties. Thanks to its open-cell and fine foam structure, the sound-absorption values in the medium and high frequency ranges are particularly good. Moreover, this lightweight material is easy to process. For instance, the ventilation conduits under the ceiling were wrapped in such a way that the suspension structure for the cladding is not visible.
The installation is made of Basotect® panels of different sizes, some of which span more than two meters. Securing these panels over such a distance called for their reinforcement with tubes. This gave rise to a novel construction that is sufficiently stiff and can expand in response to humidity fluctuations. Entech, headquartered in Shanghai, processed the Basotect® panels for this purpose.
Basotect®, the jack-of-all-trades
Thanks to its wide array of favorable properties, this product is used in applications as diverse as buildings and spacecraft. Basotect® protects the sensitive satellites that the Ariane 5 launcher delivers into space. Since 2004, the versatile melamine resin foam has also been employed in fireproof airplane seats and will soon be used in the new Dreamliner 787 from American aircraft manufacturer Boeing.
